Every day you see things that could be different , a slow process , a boring experience , a problem nobody has solved properly, something that could be easier , something that could be more enjoyable, Most people notice these things and move on. But sometimes an idea begins with a simple thought ( there has to be another way) this book is about thought, you don't need to be a genius to have a good ideas , you need curiosity , observation , imagination and the courage to experiment.
A problem can be frustrating , but a problem can also contain an opportunity, imagine people constantly losing their keys , someone might create a better way to find them , people struggle to organize their notes, someone might create a better system , a business doesn't always begin with: ( I want to start a business ) sometimes it begins with (why is this so difficult ?) . Pay attention to the things that annoys people , waste time , cost too much, or make simple task unnecessary complicated.
These observation can become ideas
Notice. What problem did you see today ?
Question: why does it happen ?
Imagine: what could make it easier?
Look around you, your phone , your school , your neighborhood , a shop , a taxi rank, a kitchen , a conversation an every day routine. Ask your self (how could this work differently ?) creativity isn't always about inventing something nobody has ever seen, sometimes it about taking something familiar and making it more useful.
A small improvement can still be a real idea .
Choose one ordinary object near you
What could I add
What could I remove
What could I change
People sometimes reject their own ideas too quickly they think that stupid : then the idea disappear don't judge an idea immediately , write it down first you can improve it later, a rough idea is easier to work with than an idea that only exist in your head. Keep a place for your thought
Your note app can become an idea box. One day an idea that seemed unimportant might connect with other idea and become something useful.
Write down five ideas today
Don't rate them
Don't delete them
Just capture them
A surprising number of ideas come From combining existing things
Music+ video
Book+ technology
Food + delivery
Maps+ navigation
Ask your self ( what happens if I put this two ideas together ?)
You don't always need to invent something completely new
You can create a new experience by combining familiar pieces, that one reason curiosity matter. The more things you learn about, the more pieces you have available to combine.
Choose two unrelated things
Put them together
Then ask
Could this combination solve a problem ?
Sometimes creativity isn't about having more answers , it about asking better questions
Instead of ( how can make this cheaper?"
Try( what part of this cost the most "'? )
Instead of ( how can I make people use this )
Try(why aren't people using it ? )
Instead of (how do I build this ?)
Try(do people actually need this ?)
A better question can change the direction of an entire project
Take one problem you're interested In
Write five questions about it
Look at the problem From different angles
An idea can feel exciting when it in your head, but reality gives you a better information,
You don't always need a huge launch, build a tiny vision, if you want to create a website make one page , if you want to create an app start with one useful feature, if you want to write a book, write one chapter, if you want to create a product make a simple prototype.
The goal of a first version isn't perfection
It learning
Mindra experiment
Choose one idea
Ask
What is the smallest version I could make ?
Them. Make that version
Your idea may make perfect sense to you, but other people may experience it differently
Let someone try what you've created
Then watch
Where do they get confused
What do they enjoy
What do they ignore
What question do they ask
Their reaction can teach you things you couldn't discovere by thinking alone.
Don't treat every opinion as a command
Look for useful pattern
Ask
What would you change
Listen before explaining your ideas
Sometimes an idea doesn't work. That normal. Maybe nobody wants it, maybe it too complicated, maybe it cost too much to make ,maybe the timing is wrong , maybe the problem wasn't important enough. That information has value
Instead of saying ( my idea failed )
Try asking ( what did the experiment reveal ?)
Them decide whether to improve the idea, change direction or move on
Not every idea deserves to survive.
That part of creating
Mindra experiment
Think of something you tried that didn't work
Write three things it taught you
As people grow older they sometimes stop asking questions.
They become used to the way things are, but curiosity can keep your mind active.
Ask why
Ask what if
Ask how
Explore subjects you don't normally study, learn from different people
Try unfamiliar activities when they safe and appropriate
You never know which piece of knowledge will connect with an idea later
Curiosity gives your imagination more material to work with
Choose something you know almost nothing about
Spend 20 minutes learning about it
Write down one surprising thing you discovered
An idea sitting in your mote book can't can't help anyone
At some point you have to give it a form, a page , a drawing , a website, a video , a prototype , a story, a project,
It doesn't need to be perfect, it needs to exist
Once something exist you can improve it
You can show it to people
You can learn from it
You can change it
That when am idea becomes more than a thought
It becomes something you can work with
I will write my ideas down
I will ask better questions
I will experiment before assuming
I will start small
I will listen useful feedback
I will learn from unsuccessful attempt
I will improve what I create
And I will remember
What problem cought my attention today ?
What could be different?
Did I write the idea down ?
What tiny vision should I create?
What did the experiment teach me ?
You don't need permission to wonder
Yoh don't need to wait until you're an expert
You don't need expensive equipment begin thinking creatively
Start with what you can see
Ask questions
Write an idea
Try something small
Learn what happens
Then try again
Some ideas will disappear
Some will change
And some might become something you never expected
So keep looking
There are ideas around you that you haven't tried yet
Notice more , imagine more , create more .
